About Me
I'm Shelly Fernandez, a registered nurse and freelance writer covering health, wellness, and culture. I write health information the way I'd explain it to a patient in the exam room: accurate, direct, and easy to follow.
I've worked in healthcare since 2021. I hold a BSN from Mount Sinai Phillips School of Nursing and a BA in psychology from Queens College, and I've written health content for the National Alliance on Mental Illness of NYC (NAMI-NYC). In ambulatory care, I've worked across a range of outpatient specialties, including primary care, urgent care, wound care, ophthalmology, and infectious disease, handling patient education, follow-up, and coordination with providers.
Why hire a nurse to write your health content?
My patient education has spanned from medication reviews and surgery prep to what to expect after vaccines. That work taught me the questions and concerns patients have. Those are the same questions and concerns readers want answered, and I write content that answers them. I also know healthcare from the inside, from pharmacology to clinical notes and chart review, I can turn medical language and into plain language for your readers.
Credibility comes from the content, so I make sure everything I write is accurate and well sourced. An RN byline adds to that: readers, want to know who wrote a health page and whether they know the subject. The result is health content your readers can follow and your organization can stand behind.
A little more about me...
I'm endlessly curious about people. That curiosity is why I write about culture, too.
